Tumour marker in pancreatic carcinoma
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Despite the improved sensitivity of new radiological techniques to detect pancreatic cancer during the last two decades, Warshaw and colleagues [6] have underlined the fact that pre-operative imaging (CT, MRI and Angiography) has a sensitivity of only 78%. As a result, diagnosis is delayed and survival rates ranging from 1% to 5% have remained unchanged, even in resected cases, over the last three decades. There has, therefore, been a renewed interest in the role of serological markers as a diagnostic test for pancreatic tumours, because a number of mucin-associated carbohydrate antigens and enzymes are elevated in the sera of pancreatic cancer patients. In vivo imaging of cellular proliferation in renal cell carcinoma using 18F-fluorothymidine PET
Objective(s): The ability to measure cellular proliferation non-invasively in renal cell carcinoma may allow prediction of tumour aggressiveness and response to therapy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the uptake of 18Ffluorothymidine (FLT) PET in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), and to compare this to 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG), and to an immunohistochemical measure of cellular proliferatio...
متن کاملTargeting of cancer stem cell marker EpCAM by bispecific antibody EpCAMxCD3 inhibits pancreatic carcinoma
Patients with pancreatic cancer have a poor survival rate, and new therapeutic strategies are needed. Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM), suggested as a marker for cancer stem cells, is over-expressed on most pancreatic tumour cells but not on normal cells and may be an ideal therapeutic target. We evaluated the anti-tumour efficiency of bispecific EpCAMxCD3 antibody linking tumour cells...
متن کاملMonoclonal Antibody Production Against Vimentin by Whole Cell Immunization in a Mouse Model
Background: Pancreatic carcinoma is the fourth-leading cause of cancer death in the United States and due to its late presentation, only few patients would be candidates for the curative treatment of pancreactomy. Monoclonal antibodies have brought hope to targeted therapy. Objectives: To identify new biomarkers, a panel of monoclonal antibodies was genera...
متن کاملLaparoscopic peritoneal lavage cytology and immunocytology in pancreatic and periampullary carcinoma.
BACKGROUND Free tumour cells in the peritoneal cavity of patients with pancreatic carcinoma carry a poor prognosis. Reactive or degenerative mesothelial cells can make cytological interpretation with conventional stains difficult. Detection of the tumour-associated antigens carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and CA19-9 may improve detection. METHODS At staging laparoscopy, 22 patients with pancre...
متن کاملDiagnostic pitfall; interpretation of CA 19-9 concentrations in the presence of hepatic dysfunction.
A 50 year old man is described with hepatic dysfunction and chronic pancreatitis in whom greatly increased concentrations of the pancreatic tumour marker CA 19-9 combined with an abnormal appearance at endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography lead to the false suspicion of pancreatic carcinoma. CA 19-9 concentrations should be interpreted with caution in patients with intrinsic liver dise...
